University of Washington Medical Center Chooses LYNX Medical Systems Coding Services
LYNX provides professional and facility coding services to leading Pacific Northwest medical center
November 7, 2005—Bellevue, WA—LYNX Medical Systems today announced that an agreement had been reached with the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) to provide outsourced professional and facility coding services. The agreement includes ICD-9 and CPT coding services for UWMC Urgent Care, Clinical Decision/Observation Unit (CDU), Fast Track and Emergency Department. These UWMC units provide services for more than 32,000 encounters annually. LYNX coding services commenced on October 17, 2005.
LYNX performed an analysis of UWMC’s coding workflow processes and presented UWMC with recommendations. LYNX worked with UWMC staff to further streamline their processes and documented each process requirement. UWMC and LYNX developed and documented site-specific coding guidelines, which LYNX will maintain and update as necessary. These initiatives have created more efficient workflow processes, thus allowing for quicker turnaround times.
LYNX coding staff is comprised of experienced clinical and coding specialists. LYNX coding specialists assign CPT and ICD-9 codes in accordance with current Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) documentation guidelines, CPT policy (published by the American Medical Association), American College of Emergency Physicians, Correct Coding Initiative (published by CMS) and LYNX coding guidelines. LYNX coding staff provide documentation feedback to the clinical staff. UWMC will also receive a variety of monthly management reports.
