Porter Memorial Health System Chooses LYNX Medical Systems Emergency Department Facility Charging Software

LYNX E/Point Online will aid Portage and Valparaiso Hospitals to better align Emergency Department resource utilization and hospital facility charging

June 1, 2006—Bellevue, WA—LYNX Medical Systems (LYNX) today announced that an agreement had been reached with Porter Memorial Health System (Porter) for LYNX E/Point Online, next generation Emergency Department (ED) outpatient facility charging software application. The contract was signed in the second quarter of 2006.

LYNX E/Point Online software will assist Portage and Valparaiso Hospital campuses record ED facility resource use for more than 52,480 annual ED visits. E/Point Online will enable ED staff to easily track patients and review demographic information, chief complaint or presenting problem, disposition, charge status and other indicators. Hospital management will also have access to financial and clinical data to better manage ED operations and patient care.

“E/Point Online will be a valuable tool in our commitment to excellence and high-quality, patient-focused medical care,” stated Cheryl Harmon, CFO at Porter Memorial Health System. “My past experience with this LYNX application was extremely positive as it provided immediate and measurable results. I’m confident that E/Point Online will bring similar benefits to Porter.”

E/Point Online is a standalone outpatient facility charging software program that provides a simple and easy-to-use interface for ED staff with prompts for recording work performed during patient treatment. The software employs LYNX proprietary outpatient facility charging algorithm, which produces a visit level distribution and revenue that accurately reflects patient acuity mix and resource utilization in the ED. The LYNX acuity-based methodology is employed at more than 200 healthcare organizations nationwide involving more than 10 million annual encounters.

Utilizing the Microsoft .NET platform, E/Point Online is a browser-based application, employing smart client technology, which allows data to move with greater efficiency. Software implementation is faster and easier, and E/Point Online can be deployed without costly hardware requirements. E/Point Online software updates are automatically performed when the user logs on, thereby eliminating time-consuming manual updates. A trial version of the application is available on the LYNX Web site at www.lynxmed.com.

“We are very excited to be working with Cheryl [Harmon] and this highly respected health system,” said Mike DeTolla, president of LYNX Medical Systems Software. “We are confident E/Point Online will bring the immediate benefit of streamlining operations at these Porter campuses while securing accurate, defensible revenue.”
