Focused Education to Reduce Compliance Risk & Improve Revenues

The LYNX Quality Management Department provides a variety of educational services including coder classes, physician classes to train physicians in CMS documentation guidelines and facility documentation classes to train clinical staff in facility documentation. LYNX training classes follow CMS, CPT and AMA guidelines. Class content is individualized to meet specific client needs.

Coder Training

Coder classes are individually designed to meet the needs of each client and coder and include instructions for assignment of CPT codes as well as ICD-9 CM codes. The focus for new coder classes is to train coders on general outpatient coding guidelines and focus on the specific area(s) of coding they will use on a daily basis. LYNX specializes in training coders for Emergency Department, Urgent Care, Observation and ICD-9 CM coding.

Coder classes typically run from one to two weeks and include a training manual and other educational materials. Practice coding and auditing as well as quality management feedback are incorporated into training so coders are prepared to begin production coding at the conclusion of the course and have the necessary skills to sustain them after training.

Physician Documentation Training

LYNX provides documentation classes for physician groups and hospitals with a focus on CPT guidelines for assignment of E&M and procedure codes. Class emphasis is on teaching physicians specific CMS guidelines and how to document visits to support correct code assignment that accurately reflects care provided.

Facility Documentation Training

LYNX provides facility documentation classes for clinical hospital staff in an effort to educate staff on basic documentation requirements for appropriate code assignment. CPT descriptors and typical nursing procedures are reviewed, as are the documentation elements necessary to support appropriate code assignment.
